I'm Taking A Break

The Story of Two Gardens by Saniyasnain Khan

Don't speak too proudly of your worldly achievement without
attributing its success to Allah. Without HIS help, it's impossible
to get anything. That is the message in which the author was trying
to tell his readers. As in his past children's books, this story is
also based on the teachings of the Al Quran.

The story is told in simple sentences and suitable for primary
school children. However, there may be words that require the
children to look up the dictionary for their meanings and parents
too, may come in handy in explaining certain relligious concepts to
the little ones.

Most of Saniyasnain Khan's books come with beautiful and colourful
illustrations.

This book is not excluded. Infact the illustrations play an equally
important role as the story itself, especially in helping the
children understand the story better.

A little off the norm, the book comes in a 16cmx24cm size. Though
it's a paperback, the book cover is thick enough for the children.
The paper too is of high quality: thick and smooth. The text is also
large enough. The author too includes a reference to the verse in
the Al Quran if the reader wish to know more about the story. This
is found on the last page of the book.

As a conclusion, the narration was easy to follow and a good story
to share with the children.

Someone asked me recently on how do I charge those who sought my writing services. It's not a straight forward answer because I too, had to make research on it first. In other words, I need to learn the tricks too.
On my first attempt, it was purely for the fun of it and also the prizes offered. It was the contest of course. A pen, a CD, as far as I remember. There was also, what the editors had to offer for an article, ranging from RM7 to RM300! Different type of media will give you different income. Magazine, online, newspaper... From my experience the mag offers you slightly higher fees.
For editing and translation, I go by word count mostly. Once you've a list of reputable clients, the job will come in.

A month more and school reopens. Children will be begging for new school bags, mothers searching for ne wuniforms (those who can sew, will start sewing now. These uniforms don't come cheap!!) and of course the text books for those who need to buy them (children getting 'buku pinjaman' will get them once school starts.
I am one of the parents who need to buy books for the children. After ransacking the storeroom, we could only find a book for my Year 2 daughter that can be used next year. Voila! a 10 ringgit saving. A hand-me-down from her Form 4 sister. Yes, an 8-year-old gap. Well, need to head to the school's co-op or maybe to the nearby bookstore searching for text books soon.

Yes, we did have some activities planned a few holidays back but unfortunately, w do not have any for the current hols. A few parents enquired about it through e-mail and sms. Sorry parents...

Try finding out about activities organised by others. Am sure there are a lot. As for DNZ, a daughter is sitting for her SPM and the other two attend KUMON classes. Oh yes, reading books can also be a fun activity. Search for them at DNZ's online bookstore.

Landscaping Books and Plants

Semalam kami ke Borders, Times Square. Pertama kali ke Borders!! Seperti biasa, tempat yang dituju ialah bahagian majalah, buku kanak2 dan landscaping (my new passion...). Banyak terdapat buku2 plants and landscaping yang agak tebal di dlm lingkungan RM50-100. Memang mengasyikkan tengok gambar2 dan membaca arahan yang diberikan dlm buku2 tersebut. Well, I just flipped through to store as many ideas that I can use for my own laman.

Tentang pokok pula, sekarang saya mencuba menyemai anak2 pokok pula. Yang menjadi sekarang ialah pokok misai kucing (Orthosiphon stamineus ). Anak2 pokok disemai dalam polibeg hitam (mcm di nursery tu..), tanah hitam dan baja juga digunakan. Siapa yang berminat boleh dapatkan pada harga RM5....untuk cover cost tanah dan baja... Pagi tadi baru mencuba pokok bunga raya berbunga jingga. InsyaAllah, dengan izinNya jua, hiduplah ia. If not, well, cuba lagi. The pic shows the misai kucing flowers.

We've a few of Tony Buzan's books at home. However, I was quite surprised to see my youngest reading through Mind Map for Kids. I just let her with her reading though I'm not too sure if she can understand it.

Business As Usual

Two nites ago I had a customer who came over at night. Never had I entertained one before during that time. Anyway glad that my hubby was around too and he was busy talking away with the customer's husband. Alhamdulillah we made a sale that night.

Yesterday, packed a few brochures into an envelope and had it sent to DNZ Friends (our resellers). It's 50 sen now, I mean the cost of the stamP... Gosh, what will happen if we still stick the 30 sen stamp? Anyone knows?

After giving some thought to the idea, insyaAllah, we'll be having a programme called 'You Nominate, We Donate' for the year 1427H / 2006. The name for the programme was mooted by hubby dear (another was by daughter, Mardhiah -- but decided to choose hubby's instead)

The objective of the programme is to make sadaqah to these selected
orphanages. The sadaqah will be in the form of books.

When one travels along the KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) highway, one will see this billboard. It's on MAS - the Malaysian Airline System. Nay I'm not abt to promote this co, but hey, it's a Malaysian co!================================
Never once did he had any complaints whatsoever about the places he visited (on work purposes) and the people. However, I received an SMS from him yesterday that said,"I'm in no mood to do any shopping right now. (Well... I did ask him to buy a few things there!!) Life beyond the hotel is miserable." I don't know what was playing in his mind then but in one of his earlier messages he did mention about how some places he saw were much worse that his 'kampung' (hometown) here in Malaysia.

In reflection, I can't say anything else but am very thankful for being born here in Malaysia and staying here too! There are the ups and downs but nothing that one cannot overcome, with His help, InsyaAllah. Yes, be thankful always and 'bersyukur' for what we have, for there are other people in other parts of the world who are not that lucky.

Well, here's my complainant side :-) This Taman Tenaga-Jln Reko junction (in Kajang, Selangor) has a traffic light ... but too bad, it's still not functioning. The relevant authorities (MPKj? JKR? etc...), pls do something... it's quite hard for us to cross the road to head to UKM especially in the morning rush hours!!! Thanks guys.. I'm sure you're all looking hard into it. Btw, that's one of Malaysia's National cars (Proton Waja) waiting to turn to the right.===================

Do you belong to any e-groups or maybe you're one of the moderators? So, my third method is through the e-groups.

3. If you belong to any e-group and would like to send promotional e-mails to the groups, it's advisable to ask permission from the moderator first! If permission granted then go ahead. If not do not attempt to send the mails!! You may be accuse of sending spam mails. There are also e-groups that are devoted to business opportunities. If this is the case, then you may send this type of promo e-mails to the group.

If you're a moderator, say, of a stay-at-home mom group... you may set one day aside for this purpose. Some stay-at-home moms do search for business opportunities. So by setting one day specifically for this, interested moms may send in their business opps while others may do the searching! Try this site or you may search the Net using words mentioned earlier.

Never send your e-mail without a signature file or commonly known as sig file. A sig file usually contains your business info etc. In this case, I'll just put in the link to the affiliate's website after signing off with my name when sending e-mails to friends and family. Those who are using company's e-mail address may not want to use this method or you'll leave your boss fuming....!@%*^!

Sometimes if you're lucky, your friends may just forward the e-mails to her friends and so on and so on. With the link still intact, the probability for someone to click the link gets higher.

So, there are some questions posed by them on how to promote the programme's website. I'll list down here, the steps I took in order to promote the site. 1. Send promo e-mail to friends (BUT DON'T SPAM)
The owner of the website has prepared a few promo materials to be used by members. I used the e-mail type to send to family and friends. I'm sure they'll not mind because they are my friends, what!! :-) To see if this works out or not, I'll just go to the statistic link at the website and scan through the referal link ie those who read and click the link in my e-mails via their e-mails (can understand or not??). From here I can see that, it does work because a few of my downlines use this way and took the right decision to register (thanks guys!)

I've been getting questions and calls regarding the class I have for MUET. Decided to put up the qs here, so that others will also benefit from them. If you do have questions, do post it in the comments section and I'll try my best to answer them. InsyaAllah, I'll update the FAQ from time to time.

Q1. What is MUET?

MUET or Malaysian Universities English Test is a test used to gauge the English level of pre-university students. Those wishing to attend university for their first degrees must show proof that they have indeed sat for the test.
For this year (2005), the test will be held in april/may and october. There are 4 papers in the test; listening, speaking, reading and writing. As for the grading, students do not pass or fail the test. They are classified into 6 bands whereby band 6 is the highest level while band 1 indicates poor understanding of the language.

Q2. When is DNZ next MUET basic prep course held?

Our present MUET class will end this month (Sept 2005). We haven’t planned for any other classes until the end of the year. However, stay tune by surfing our webpage to know of the latest happenings!

Alhamdulillah, I’ve not met with any major problems yet, for most of the things that I’m doing with DNZ website are almost the same with e-bay. I’m not a tech person therefore any new things will without doubt be an obstacle (at first!).

Teach Your Children - Without Them Knowing They Are Learning!

The great thing about children is they absorb knowledge like a sponge. The downside to this is that they are typically wise to the fact that they don’t want to sit down and be taught, fortunately as parents we can think of ways around that! Here are some great ideas of ways to promote learning with your children.
Read with your child, or better yet, take turns reading to each other. One-on-one reading is less common at schools and your child will benefit from having the extra practice time. Try to keep the books at the same reading level as your child is at, or one step below. The goal is to make it a pleasurable and relaxing experience and in doing so there is a greater chance that they will read as a hobby and not just when it is required. If your child does not like reading novels, read magazines or even comic books. The content isn’t as important as them developing the skills to be able to read fluently.
Have your children write letters to friends and family. The other option is have your child find a pen pal to encourage writing, there are places online that you can find other child that want to correspond and have their basic hobbies and such listed so you can pick one that is well matched with your child. Have your child write letters to family members about new things that are happening with them, the first day of school for example and add a picture of their first day. Send them off, and yes with a real stamp! It’s a great way for you child to build up their vocabulary, writing and spelling skills.
Have a family night and play board games that encourage spelling. Scrabble, Upwards or Boggle are some great examples. There are also versions of these games and many more like them for younger children.
These are just a few ideas for how to create a learning environment for your children. The great part about learning is it never ends, no matter how old or young you are there is always something new out there to explore.

Merdeka Day (Malaysia's Independence Day), on the 31st of August, is getting nearer. I've decided to upload some photos on the many ways Malaysians 'hang/raise' their Jalur Gemilang.

Description: At a railway line overhead bridge. Hmm.. missed the opportunity to capture the moment when a Komuter train was passing by.

Alhamdulillah, the Haze Has Gone With the Wind

Just look at the red bougainvillaea and I'm sure your eyes will find them relaxing. After a couple of days seeing hazy skyline, finally we can breathe in good air and our vision is not limited either. Too bad though, those in the Northern region are now having the haze. Pray that the haze will go soon!!!

Taken at Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor, Bandar Seri Putra, Selangor last Sat... when the haze was beginning to subside.

DNZ had another successful session at Tadika Little Caliphs (yes, Zaleha's new kindy! Congrats!) at Taman Seri Melur, Kajang, on 28 Nov 2004.

Note: In AUGUST 2004, we also had a similar session at the same kindergarten.

--> Another book-selling session was held at Zaleha Hamid's kindy at Taman Sri Melur, Kajang. It was the kindy's report card day (20 August, 2004) and the owner had invited DNZ to set up a 'table' for parents to browse through the books. It was also the time whereby she highlighted on some books that are useful to the children. Thank you Zaleha! (P/S Unfortunately, DNZ didn't bring along a camera to capture the moments.)
